Google Panda Updates: Part 1

Google Panda

Why are we talking about Google Panda updates now? Well, as it is in the news that the manual panda updates will stop, and soon it will get merged in Google’s algorithm. The panda is going to be gone. So why not now? Let’s discuss that how the search Giant Google made webmasters understand the importance of genuine and fresh content.

The Story of the Google Panda Updates, goes like this….

A major algorithm updates hit sites hard, affecting up to 12% of search results (a number that came directly from Google). Panda rolled out over at least a couple of months, hitting Europe in April 2011.

There was a day when Internet marketing strategies were going through some content farming, duplicate content and content keyword stuffing. The strategy was working for some, and it resulted in positive outcomes over the search rankings.

In February 2011, there was a major update, which was like a tsunami that occurred and everything shattered. The update hit the websites hard. It affected up to 12% of search results, as per Google. Formerly known as the Farmer update, it seems to crack down on thin content, content farms, content oriented sites with high ad-to-content ratios plus a number of other quality issues.

The Google Panda Update Happened…..

It was the 23rd day of February, 2011 when this explosion occurs in the SEO field.

Although Panda Update came in February, 2011, but it rolled out over at least a couple of months, hitting Europe in April 2011. With the introduction of some unexpected changes in the promotional techniques, many websites face serious ups and downs in their ranking over the leading search engines.

The name Panda was given….

Now the question here was that is this the Farmer’s update – as it affected content farms mainly or it was some other name. Yet again Google came in and announced the name as “The Panda Update” and that made the marketers think as to why Panda? Does it represents the wild and angry face of wild Panda or is indicate the clean and clear view of wildlife. Well, Google said it was simple the Google engineer who worked hard on this update was named as Mr. Navneet Panda, so the update became the Panda Update.

On this Amit Singhal from Google said: “Well, we named it internally after an engineer, and his name is Panda. So internally we called a big Panda. He was one of the key guys. He basically came up with the breakthrough a few months back that made it possible.”

The update was designed and implemented to improve the quality and importance of content online. The websites that are going to be affected must contain low quality/thin content, they are the one who will get penalized and face decline in their search engine rankings.

The update since its inception brought many changes, which demands correct content development and implementation with SEO techniques.

The key pointers of the Panda update, are:

  1. Duplicate Content
  2. Low Quality Content
  3. Content with Excessive Ads

The update didn’t stopped, it moved on in the coming months again.

Typical local search queries include not only information about “what” the site visitor is searching for (such as keywords, a business category, or the name of a consumer product) but also “where” information, such as a street address, city name, postal code, or geographic coordinates like latitude and longitude.

In general Local Search is useful for local businesses that ranges FROM selling furniture, laptops, desktops, mobile phones TO travel packages, weekend getaways TO corporate events, local events, music events TO best deals in town, movie tickets TO trainings, classes, gym TO doctors, hospitals, ATM’s and a lot more.

There are so many things and so many places where we all need local search results and listings.  Local search engine optimization (Local SEO) does not have any shortcuts; it is an on-going business promotion activity, which is done online to gain popularity and reach. It attracts an audience that may interact with you. You can ask your customers to leave some review and feedback on the services offered. So that whenever there is an inquiry on the related services, the user will be able to find your company and check your ratings and review before contacting you for the services.

In a way it advertise your business or services and build a trust level with a prospect customer, as it is based on an existing customer’s feedback and experience while working with you.

5. Track local trends
Track local trends; see what the talk of the town is and how you can use it for your business promotion. This might sound more like an offline traditional way of promoting business. However, this is a very fresh way to get in your customers mind and make them check out your website.
